This is not my time yet: Reflections on the Principles and Methods of Assessment Journey

As the trimester draws to a close, it's time to reflect on my journey through the Principles of Assessment course. This blog entry is not just a summary of learnings but an honest account of my triumphs and challenges, a testament to the delicate balance of academia and life's unpredictable priorities.

A Tapestry of Growth

The principles of assessment have woven a tapestry of growth in my academic journey. From understanding the nuances of alignment to unravelling the pillars of validity and reliability, each lesson has been a stepping stone toward a deeper appreciation for the art and science of assessment. I've delved into the intricacies of assessment reporting and navigated the currents of the assessment cycle, gaining insights that transcend textbooks and spill into the real world.

A Candid Admission

However, in the spirit of transparency, I must acknowledge my shortcomings. There were times when I fell short in discussions, unable to contribute as much as I aspired. The intricate dance of academic commitments and family priorities presented a formidable challenge. Balancing the demands of studies with the responsibilities of family required a juggling act that, at times, left me grappling for equilibrium.

A Noble Distraction

Family has always been my anchor, and this trimester was no exception. There were moments when my studies took a back seat to family priorities. The constant juggle between academic pursuits and familial responsibilities became a delicate tightrope walk, and I found myself, at times, leaning more towards the latter. It's a reminder that life's unexpected turns can alter the course of our academic endeavors.

A Promise of Return

As the semester concludes, there's a realization that this may not be my time yet to fully grasp and conquer the Principles of Assessment. But here's the commitment: I will be back. If the outcomes are not as favorable as I hope, I'll be back to retake the course. This is not a farewell but a 'see you later.' The principles of assessment have become a challenge that I am determined to conquer, even if it takes a second attempt.

A Chapter Unfinished

In closing, this journal entry is not an end but a pause. It's a chapter that feels unfinished, waiting for the next semester to provide the closure it deserves. The principles of assessment, with their complexities and intricacies, have not seen the last of me. Until then, I'll carry the learnings, acknowledge the shortcomings, and eagerly anticipate the next opportunity to master the art and science of assessment.
