Starting Exercise 1, which was a group look at the different ways that teachers and students see intelligence, has turned out to be an educational journey that goes beyond the limits of typical school assignments. The difficulties of making surveys, analyzing different answers, and putting together a lot of different points of view have not only helped me learn more about intelligence, but they have also completely changed how I work with others. The changing dynamics of group interactions made the activity more difficult and turned it into a miniature version of real-life teamwork. The most important skills for success were clear communication and active listening.
The different ideas and experiences in the group were both the task and the reward. There were a lot of different ideas about what intelligence means, and they had to be carefully sorted out. This process not only helped me understand the subject better, but it also taught me important lessons about working with others. I learned that recognizing and appreciating different points of view is very important. This turns things that could be sources of conflict into chances for rich talk and synthesis. As the team worked together, different ideas came together, and each person added their own unique piece to the puzzle. This showed how important it is to work together to solve problems.
As I think back on this experience, I realize that it gave me a lot of new skills that aren't just useful for studying intelligence or what is intelligence, or even the application of it. I've improved my abilities as a co-thinker and team player because I know how important it is to create a space where everyone's voice is heard. Now that I know how to lead open conversations, get everyone on the team involved, and play to each person's strengths, I can make a useful contribution to future group projects.
